Flexible Hybrid Working | Long-Term Contract | Strong Multi-Agency Focus | Competitive Pay | Leadership Opportunity

We are working in partnership with a forward-thinking local authority in South East Wales to recruit a Senior Practitioner – Assistant Team Manager within their Child Protection, Looked After Children, and Court Team. This is an exciting opportunity to take the next step in your career, supporting and mentoring a team of experienced Social Workers while overseeing a small, complex caseload.

You will manage a small complex caseload where you'll be part of a well-resourced, supportive service with a clear structure, strong leadership, and a child-centred approach. In this senior role, you will contribute to practice development, offer support on complex casework, and take on leadership responsibilities that directly impact outcomes for children and families.

Key Highlights:

  • Step into a senior leadership role with scope for ongoing professional development
  • Long-term contract (6 months or more) offering job stability and continuity
  • Reduced caseload to focus on complexity, supervision, and team support
  • Supportive and high-performing team with regular supervision and peer learning
  • Authority committed to training, development, and evidence-informed practice
  • Competitive pay, reflective of senior responsibilities
  • Hybrid working options to support work-life balance
  • Early access to future opportunities through Leaders in Care
  • Well-being support and regular check-ins from our agency team

About You:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Care Wales
  • Significant experience in Child Protection, Court Work, and CLA
  • Skilled in managing complex cases and making sound safeguarding decisions
  • Confident in supervising, mentoring, and developing colleagues
  • Strong working knowledge of Welsh legislation, guidance, and safeguarding procedures
  • Prior experience as a Senior or Advanced Practitioner is highly desirable

This is a fantastic chance to grow your leadership skills, influence practice, and be part of a high-quality statutory service that values reflective practice, safe decision-making, and strong team collaboration.
